The Immortal Shakespeare Tickets and Dates

Taking place on Zoom on the second Wednesday of every month, our online Research Conversations provide you with the opportunity to listen to people who are engaged in Shakespeare-related research.

On 9 November, Dr Lindsay MacDonald of University College London will share some exciting findings on 'The Immortal Shakespeare', a rare poster-sized drawing from the 19th Century which portrays Shakespeare's monument in Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon in micro-calligraphy.

The linework is composed of tiny lettering, less than 1mm in height, running in a continuous path throughout the design. Direct reading is difficult, but the print has now been digitised which allows for the text to be navigated on screen with functions for enlargement. The text was fully transcribed and three sources were identified from the 1840s.

What does the lettering say? Who wrote it? What does it add to Shakespearian scholarship?

Led by Dr Lindsay MacDonald, Honorary Professor, University College London.

The event begins with a thirty minute presentation and will be followed by an open discussion.

Please note this is an online event held on Zoom.
